Overview

What this discipline looks like at AMSK.

Water and irrigation contracts in Sri Lanka are operated by NWSDB (National Water Supply & Drainage Board), the Irrigation Department, and the Mahaweli Authority. AMSK has executed under all three, with workflows that match each principal's testing, witnessing and certification regimes.

Minipe Anicut is the most visible piece of our irrigation portfolio: the heightening works on the Minipe anicut included new water-control and measurement facilities, structural concrete in active flow, and coordination with the Irrigation Department's resident engineering supervision. The contract demanded river diversion sequencing, downstream community coordination, and water-quality monitoring throughout the works.

On Greater Colombo wastewater, AMSK has executed pipeline laying, manhole construction, road reinstatement and connection works across multiple zones. We coordinate with the resident utilities (CEB, SLT, water mains) before excavation and reinstate carriageway to RDA standard after backfill. Western Province wastewater works require this level of integration with adjacent utility owners; otherwise the sequence collapses.

Our approach

Four principles, applied to every contract.

How we structure a water & irrigation programme from first survey to defects liability handover.

01. River diversion is the first contract

For anicut and weir works in active rivers, the cofferdam and diversion design is the start of the work programme, not an afterthought. Sequencing decides whether the structure gets poured on time.

02. Utility coordination, before excavation

Urban wastewater pipelines run through CEB cables, SLT ducts and existing water mains. Pre-excavation utility mapping with each owner has saved this firm from incidents that have crippled other contractors.

03. Water quality, monitored continuously

Construction in or near potable sources requires water-quality monitoring through the works, not just at handover. We sample on the cadence the NWSDB specifies and submit the results before invoicing the milestone.

04. Reinstate to RDA spec

Carriageway reinstatement after pipeline backfill is one of the first things a resident engineer will fail. We reinstate to RDA SSCM standard so the works pass first inspection.

Standards we work to

The specifications, codes and quality regimes behind every delivery.

  • NWSDB (National Water Supply & Drainage Board) specifications
  • Irrigation Department standards for hydraulic structures
  • RDA SSCM for carriageway reinstatement
  • ISO 9001:2015 / 14001:2015 / OHSAS 18001:2007
